AIRBNB IN SOUTHERN IRELAND

If you are looking for a more affordable option, an apartment rental is the way to go. Using Airbnb you can rent an apartment anywhere in the city. You typically don’t get the amenities of a concierge, breakfast, gym, pool, etc so you can get your stay for less than half the price of a hotel. You’ll want to book far in advance to get a great place with good reviews. Be aware, Barcelona isn’t the most Airbnb-friendly city so make sure you have a way of constant communication with your host. Get $40 off your first booking here: BOOK AN AIRBNB

We stayed at the airbnb called “Flat Next to Train Station and Subway” by Ignacio and it was a wonderful stay!

TRANSPORTATION RECOMMENDATIONS IN IRELAND

As this is a roadtrip itinerary, you’ll need a rental car. We decided to road trip because we don’t like to be rushed for time and told how long we have in each place. With big tour bus tours, you often have only 1-2 hours at each stop, so if you’re really enjoying a certain place, you can’t stay longer. You also may get stuck with a group of people you don’t enjoy being around. For those reasons, we decided to do our own road trip. We were hesitant as we’ve heard the roads are tricky to navigate. Yes, they’re very narrow, but nothing scary or dangerous. We had no accidents or fender benders at all, so we felt completely safe and were so glad we toured independently. We got to do things on our own time, which meant taking the back roads instead of the highways to see more of the countryside.

We picked up a rental car at the Dublin Airport Hertz and it was a smooth process. This itinerary begins in Dublin as it’s the cheapest airport to fly into. So find a rental car in Dublin somewhere.

Keep in mind that roads are narrow so get a smaller car if all your luggage can fit. The highways will be quicker from town to town. However, we recommend taking the back, smaller roads when possible during the road trip for more beautiful scenery.

The first day or two in Dublin, you could get by without a rental car and instead use Taxis.

BOOKING RECOMMENDATIONS IN IRELAND

In the itinerary charts below, you’ll notice we mention “book now” or “book later”.  If it says “book now” you truly must book tickets now, months in advance, as it’s a popular thing to do that sells out at peak times.  If we say “book later” or wait, you could book it just before leaving or you could even just show up to the location and buy tickets that same day.

Lastly, don’t forget to get travel insurance. With such a large trip like this in which you have to pre-book a lot, it would be awful to miss the trip and not get refunded for everything.
